BR Future Plans

Post by gordon »

I have been thinking about the current state of BR, what is achievable by myself and Mikhail, and what is most needed by the BR community. I have decided to defer some of the language extensions described in the 2015 conference in favor of getting something to market. Great ideas don't do anyone any good until they are implemented.

Accordingly I have attached a 4.4 planning document for your review and comment. If we deliver what the document says, would that be beneficial to you, and would 4.4 become an attractive option?

Very nice. I especially like the "Remember Login" checkbox for Client Server. This will make Client Server look to the end user like the Standard Model and give them all the benefits of Client Server (speed, ability to access over the internet), without requiring them to have one more password to type in every day.

If what I am seeing is correct that PDF support on the MAC will still be broken until version 4.4 then I feel that is a broken promise and not acceptable.

This is a fair point Steve.

In checking my BR Plans document from last October (attached) I see the PDF library update was a 4.4 feature. But you and I had earlier conversations that it would be given priority on the MAC. In order to compile BR on on a current MAC release we have to upgrade it to WX 3.02. Once that is done we will be in a position to offer a new PDFLIB prior to any other MAC 4.3 features.

One option would be to provide the MAC PDFLIB as the first partial 4.4 release. Another option would be to offer a new MAC PDFLIB as a part of 3.3 before completing the other 4.3 enhancements.

Which would you prefer?

Gordon and I have discussed this and come to an agreement on our issues. So lets proceed to 4.4!
