Team Viewer 12

Postby gordon » Sun Dec 24, 2017 11:39 am

Greetings and Blessed Christmas.

It has come to my attention that Team Viewer has changed their policy regarding fees for commercial versions of their desktop sharing products. They are now charging by the month instead of a one time fee for each new version.

First of all, they produce a superior product and they have the right to charge anything they want for it. HOWEVER, they have a sneaky way of getting you to upgrade. Any time a desktop with an older version of TV they state that it is out of date and offer to upgrade it. Furthermore whenever a new client is added they always offer only the latest version of team viewer and the older versions are hard to find on their web site. Then as soon as the client is updated or installed they tell you the support TV must be upgraded in order to access the client desktop (for a fee of course).

I have been going along with them release by release. But the change to a monthly fee, combined with the above policy was irritating to me. So I tried other products but I was spoiled by Team Viewer performance. Finally I contacted a very friendly and accommodating Team Viewer salesperson. He sent me the following letter:

Hello Gordon,

It was a pleasure speaking with you today.

Here is a link to a video tutorial on setting up custom deployments that will always open in version 12 https://community.teamviewer.com/t5/Knowledge-Base/Create-custom-modules-Video-tutorial/ta-p/8627

If you are looking for version 12 on our website, you will find it here https://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/previous-versions/?_ga=2.13190771.55473678.1513692178-1137910816.1503946577

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Best regards,
-----------------------------

This resolved all of my concerns. Anyone who inadvertently installed TV 13, requiring monthly fees, can uninstall it and reinstall an earlier version for which they have a license.

I feel very much the same way. I'm still on Teamviewer 12. I paid for each upgrade, but am hesitant to switch to 13 which requires me to pay roughly the same price annually. I use the Host Installers you mentioned to give my users a branded teamviewer which is nice.

I have on a number of occasion ran into issues with clients who have other providers who are only on teamviewer version 9, for example and we end up uninstalling mine and installing theirs and I just kinda have to remember not to let it update their teamviewer.

Anyway - I wanted to install teamviewer 12 full version for a specific client and couldn't find it - but you just gave me the link for that - so Thank you!!

Yes we ran into the same thing and have been exploring other products. Been giving http://www.splashtop.com a try. Seems to offer what we need. We will likely sign on for a year and give it a trial. We plan to stay at version 12 of Teamviewer for the time being. Will keep you updated on the splashtop.
