Print Preview and printer selection

Post by Susan Smith »

Hi all,
Is there a way to disable the printer selection button on the print preview screen? I have two dedicated network printers that have checks in them. There are several other network printers as well as a local printer on each user's desk. I want them to be able to select any printer they like EXCEPT the ones with the checks/forms in them.

I can control this just fine when using WIN:/SELECT, because I can poll the FILE$(prtfile) value after they have selected the printer, but before anything prints to it. If they have chosen one of the dedicated printers, I can close the file and make them choose again until they select one of the "allowed" printers. But if they want the option to use PREVIEW first, then they are able to click the "select printer" button on the preview winder and I have no way to intercept the choice at that point.

I can't uninstall the dedicated printers because they DO have to write checks to those printers in another program which opens the printer explicitly.

Any suggestions?
