I've got a memory like an elephant

and cannot write down the simplest things

Question:

How do I get the hints warnings and errors to show on the right side of the editor screen?

How do I change the background color from that dos blue to white?

I am installing my editor on my desktop and so far the only thing I was able to find and do was to remove the bottom half of the screen to show more of the program

Help!

Hi Chaalie!

Ok so I'll see if I can answer your questions:
How do I get the hints warnings and errors to show on the right side of
the editor screen?
For starters make sure you can even see the Hints, Warnings and Errors (HWE) window. Go to the
View|Tool Windows menu and click on the HWE item. This should make the window visible.
You can the drag the window over to the right side and it should Tab Dock there, if you don't
already have a visible docked window there. If it did Tab Dock, move the mouse over the tab
named HWE and when the window becomes visible click the "Pin" at the top of the window to pin it
open permanently.

There might be other things to consider, like the dock drawer, but I'm assuming that you don't
currently have that closed.

BTW, the manual provides better descriptions and picture examples of the specific features.
ie. Pin, Tab Dock and Dock Drawer.
How do I change the background color from that dos blue to white?
If you've installed the program on another computer than the one from the conference then you
can export the colors from the laptop, using the Help|Export Language Options menu item.

Copy the export file to the new machine and then, using the Help|Import Language Options
menu item, import the color scheme to the new editor.
I am installing my editor on my desktop and so far the only thing I was
able to find and do was to remove the bottom half of the screen to show
more of the program
While I don't recommend installing it to the desktop, there is nothing saying you can't
The program should work regardless of where you install it. There are a couple
of things to be aware of if your installing it to a USB key or other removable devices,
but I don't think that's the case here.
Help!
I would suggest looking in the Help documentation, I believe I covered most everything there,
but I'll help as I can.

Ryan.

Attached is “My Setting File” for MyEdit. It contains the colors that I choose.

Save the file, and use Import Language Options to import the file. (I think this is a premium feature, but I also think the demo version includes the premium features for a while).

Colors are absolutely a personal preference, but it’s a start.

Ryan being a Delphi programmer, of course delivered a Delphi color scheme.

I look forward to seeing the color scheme that you come up with after you play with it!

Actually the color scheme is a little more old school than that. It actually comes from Turbo Pascal 4.0 (think late 80s). Delphi by default comes with the now standard white background, but Ryan is still livin in the 80s :)

I don't know why I didn't just do that...

Here is the White color settings that I gave out at the conference.

Sorry Chaalie!

Just import them into your new editor install.

Look at the settings options that Ryan responded with. If that doesn't
work, check to see if the dock drawer is visible. I sometimes have a
hard time finding the hints warnings and errors window. The best
places to look are the View windows dropdown menu (check to make sure
the right things are checked) and the right half of the screen
(sometimes the hints, warnings and errors window goes there, but it
hides along the right border, and you need to move the mouse over it
to make it grow. Other times it positions itself along the right half
of the screen but it makes itself very thin. In those cases, you need
to click on the left edge of it and drag the window wider with the
mouse.
How do I change the background color from that dos blue to white?
Either use somebody elses "exported settings" file, like the one Luis
sent you, or make your own color scheme.

If you want to make your own color scheme, you go to the Windows
Dropdown "Edit" menu and select "Editor Options".

In the "Option Areas" part of the Editor Options window, you'll see a
treeview with all the options. Select "Colors" under
"Languages/Highlighters". The "Languages/Highlighters - Colors"
options come up.

In the middleish of the window is a list of all the different
"Language Elements". It contains things like "Comment", "FileID",
"Float", "FormStatement", "FunctionDefinition","Identifier","Label",
etc.

Simply select the "Language Element" that you want to change, and
select new Foreground/Background colors.

I changed the background color of all my language elements to White. I
used and loved Turbo Pascal in the 80s, but I enjoy the bright and
simple white used in most modern day languages. Change the foreground
colors to whatever you like. I enjoy greens for my Strings and
StringIdentifiers (variables with a "$"). I like blues for my
NumericVariables and Numbers. I pick plain/drab/natural sorts of
colors for Comments, so they look different from the bright colors I
use for the code. I usually use brown. Its all your personal
preference, really.
I am installing my editor on my desktop and so far the only thing I was able
to find and do was to remove the bottom half of the screen to show more of
the program
I don't quite understand your question. Did you mean "Desktop
Computer" or your "Windows Desktop"?

What do you mean "show more of the program"? Are you having trouble
seeing the bottom half of the program? If the program is longer then
the screen, there should be a scrollbar for scrolling down.. What
specifically is the trouble you are having?

Does anyone know what the myeditbr command line parameter to make it automatically reload files when it detects a change in the file is? Or where to find the documentation on the command line parameters? It doesn't seem to be in the help PDF... at least not that I could find.
